Artist's Comments

The motor pool can be very peaceful at night. Something about the atmosphere of this image makes it feel like time got frozen.

This vehicle hadn't been moved for days, and tonight, it had been moved about 20 feet from the side of the shop, to just outside the big enterance.

The 88 is a recovery vehicle, and can recover about anything.

Shot difficulty: not high; the shop lights gave me a boost.

The shot itself isn't bad (except for that thing in the background, but that's obviously kind of unavoidable), but I think the processing could be a lot better.

First of all, I'd get rid of the watermark. It's distracting and they're easy to Photoshop out anyway.

I would rotate the photo a bit to the left to straighten out the tank.

And most importantly I would crop it. If you're able to from the original crop, I would leave a bit more space between the tank and the right edge of the photo. And I would crop out a fair amount of the left side. Crop out the top and bottom as well to keep the dimensions proportional. I would position the crop so as to make the ground/black sky conform to the rule of thirds (so 2/3 concrete, 1/3 black sky).

While I like the deep shadows, I don't really like the dim lighting. Can easily be fixed by adjusting the curves in Photoshop, so there's more contrast.

The 88, that's my baby. I drove one of those all over Iraq. Love the shot too. I agree with Aschkelon, the trailer kind of messes things up. However, I personally like the lighting. Great work

Thanks! Yeah, the trailer is a reefer for food transport and that is its spot when it's not used. It's almost *always* there... the bad part of shooting in a motor pool is the extra equipment that finds its way into the image. The 88 is a beast.. only seen it do its work once and it was under less than happy occations.
